Overview

Use this guide if you want to move your existing Nextcloud data into Murena Workspace.

Murena Workspace is powered by Nextcloud, so you can use the built-in Data migration feature to bring your files, contacts, calendar and other data over from your previous Nextcloud instance. The whole process is done from your browser, with nothing to install.

Tip: About the name. In a standard Nextcloud instance this section is called Data migration. On Murena Workspace that name is already used by the Google account migration, so the built-in feature is exposed under the name User migration. Both refer to the same Nextcloud feature.

Prerequisites

  • A working Murena Workspace account
  • Access to the Nextcloud instance you want to migrate from
  • The User migration app enabled on the source Nextcloud instance (it is not enabled by default)
  • Enough Murena Workspace storage for the data you plan to import

Export your data from the current instance

  1. Sign in to the Nextcloud instance you want to migrate from.
  2. Open Settings, then open the User migration tab (called Data migration on a standard Nextcloud instance).
  3. Select the data you want to export.
  4. Start the export and wait until it completes.
  5. Download the exported archive as a .zip file.

Import your data into Murena Workspace

  1. Sign in to your Murena Workspace account.
  2. Before uploading, rename the exported archive to user.nextcloud_export.
  3. Open your Files and upload the renamed archive.
  4. The file icon changes and the archive now appears under Settings → User migration → Import.
  5. Open the import and wait until it finishes. That’s it.

Verify the imported data

After the import completes, confirm everything arrived:

  • Files: the folders and files you exported are present and open correctly.
  • Contacts: the imported contacts appear and are synced to your device.
  • Calendar: the imported events appear and stay in sync.

Common mistakes

  • Renaming the archive directly inside Murena Workspace temporarily needs twice the storage of the file on the workspace. If your account is close to its limit, the rename can fail or take up all your free space. To avoid this, rename the file to user.nextcloud_export before uploading or importing it.
